Wendell, bob and Roger -
Thanks for the nice words.
re: thin - one of the things I will be forever grateful to Chuck for is his ability to rein me in. It was VERY hard for me to not try to write EVERYTHING anytime I sat down to work on this; I think that the fact that this a cogent and concise explication of a few very specific skill sets is what separates this book from the many others out there and, hopefully, fills a need.

One of the things I wish I had made a little more explicit was - use the example of the chord line for SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN as a template/example and make chord lines for the other "standards" in the book (they aren't titled, but starting at track 9 they are the changes for DOXY, IN A MELLOW TONE, I'M GETTING SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU, I'M JUST FOOLIN' MYSELF, SEPT IN THE RAIN {which you already have one example of}, WHAT IS THIS THING CALLED LOVE)

Nice job, Ed. I'm gonna have to pick this up.

I've known that you're a wonderful teacher for years. It's nice to have it out in the open now.

Dear Ed

Good work!

I bought it two weeks ago and have been working my way through it.

I think it fills a gap because of the focused topic = walking. And you've done this in more detail and with more stimulating insights than other books in which this is just one of many topics to be covered.

Congratulations and many thanks!

"Focus" is definitely the word. I'd been bouncing around through a shelve for of bass books, which have been put aside so I can focus on Ed's book. And I'm walkin'! Albeit with a mere handful of 'paths' but as one gets fluent add another and it starts adding up to some music. I'm happy.

In describing your methods you've always made it quite plain that no matter how hard you work there will always be a lot of work left to do; that the point of the work is not a goal in the future but resides in the moment. It's actually one of the great services you've done to anyone who's read your stuff. So I seriously doubt you're going to be swaggering around NY like Jesus' little brother.

What, are you kidding? You can barely get near the guy! He's got the "big ego head" alright, but luckily for him he still has a lot of hair on it.

Ed, bassbooks.com has already sold out. Load the stationwagon and head west with some more copies.

Sorry about the nose, but I'm slightly delirious with fever...you know, as opposed to the rest of the time.

That's a good sign... people buying a book about walking bass. It seems simple, but there are a lot of people who don't seem to know how to approach it.

I think I'll order a copy... I can walk, but I sometimes have a hard time explaining the concepts to students. Having a set of guidelines would be really helpful to me as a teacher.
