Essential Techniques for Acoustic Bass-Good Book?

I am a complete beginner at DB and I'm looking for a book that includes the essential things for bassists like me that are just starting out. I am interested in bluegrass and rockabilly/psychobilly music. I'd like to learn how to slap but I want to learn how to play pizzicato first. Has anybody heard of the book Essential Techniques for Acoustic Bass by Todd Phillips? Is it good?
Thanks
