Jay Leonhart, Hans Glawischnig, Neal Miner, Etc.

Hey All,

Adam Small here. I posted a similar question in the electric bass forum, but this is solely aimed at upright players...

I need your help and I think you will all like what I'm doing...

I'm starting a new music masterclass site and I have some amazing musicians attached already. The bassists so far...Jazz legend Jay Leanhart (too many credits to list), Hans Glawischnig (Chick Corea, and a million other cats), Neal Miner (tons of jazz credits) and me, Adam Small (Bernie Worrell, Sam Yahel, etc.) There are a bunch of other great bassists in the works in a variety of styles, but the above musicians have already completed their vids.

Here's my question to you...What upright players would you like to see a masterclass from? I want to know what the community thinks...

If you want to see samples of the players and project, check out the campaign at My Music Masterclass by Adam Small — Kickstarter

Don't worry, this isn't a ploy to steal your money, although I obviously wouldn't deny a pledge if you dig it...ha! I'm seriously asking for your opinions here...Lemme know what you think!

Thanks,
Adam

Question

Bro. 2 things.

1) Where'd you get the hat?

2) Where'd you get your hair done?

Very cool! Serious.

Hi Chuck. I made that hat out of old gut strings and horse hair from a French bow...or was it German? I'll have to fact check on that. My hair was done by my cat...she's very good with her claws and she's pretty inexpensive.

Thanks for the support, there are some great players on the way!

Thumbs up

You got it! Nice! Finally, somebody in L.A. with a sense of humor. That's the best post I've read in a while.

Upright Masterclass

John Patittucci - he has a upright DVD out that is awsome.

Brian Bromberg - I've seen lots of his videos talking about his electric technique, but there's not much on his upright

Drew Gress already has a couple master classes up on Mikes Masterclasses, but the audio quality is not that great nor is the production. They tend to be slapped together in someone's living room unless it's recorded at a clinic at Gages. I'm looking forward to what Adam will do, as the teaser looks really hi-fi and well put together.

More names: Todd Coolman, Michael Formanek, John Clayton, Barry Green, Michael Moore, Rufus Reid, Christian McBride, Kristen Korb
EB Players: Lincoln Goines, Will Lee, Anthony Jackson, Steve Swallow

I would like to see interplay related master classes. Duo formats (Bass & Piano, Bass & Guitar, Bass & Horn, Guitar & Piano, etc). Yes bass is great, but we don't usually play in a vacuum.

The guys you have on board are heavyweights for sure, but I'd be interested in more players that have been around for a while. A few that come to mind are Dave Holland, Gary Peacock, Cecil McBee, George Mraz, Buster Williams, Henry Grimes - not that they would necessarily have more to offer in terms of technical ability, but I think the wisdom and deep knowledge gained from being on the scene for so many years has great value.

You guys are giving me some really great stuff here...much appreciated! It may take some time due to the large scope of the website, but I'll definitely be talking to these cats. Thanks again!
