You're right by Rice University. Try to check out some of the grad students who offer lessons. Contact the school of music's (Shepherd School of Music) outreach or prep program and they can usually hook you up with somebody.

You can always contact Paul Ellison and go from there as well. He can set you up with one of his students or even him if he has the time.

Andy Moritz. He's one of the best in the biz as far as teaching beginners. Beyond that, a very nice guy

+1 on Rice and I've heard good things about Mr. Moritz. Also, I recommend Dennis Whitaker who teaches at the U of Houston. He is an excellent teacher as well as a good player and a nice person.

Hey Buddy,

I sent all of this information in a PM, but thought it would be good to post it as well.

Paul Ellison, Rice University
(713) 743-3379
Dennis Whitaker, University of Houston
(713) 743-3379
dwhittaker@uh.edu

I don't have Mr. Moritz's contact info, but you can call or email my teacher, Jeff Bradetich, the great bass professor and player who teaches at the University of North Texas. He will have his number and email.

Jeff Bradetich, University of North Texas
(940)565-4649
jbradeti@music.unt.edu

All the Best,
Jake
