Looking for a Teacher in the NYC Area

Hi guys,

I'm getting back into upright bass after more than ten years. TBO, I only played for about 1 year in high school, so I am approaching things as a beginner - no chip on my shoulder, I am a lump of clay to be moulded.

Anyway, I live in the Westchester area but am willing to travel... Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!

I can't recommend Joe Solomon highly enough. Working with him has opened my eyes to what it means to be a musician and not just a bass player.

Here's a link to an article he wrote discussing his approach to practicing an instrument called, Doing it the Slow Way.

If your interested, you can reach him at 212-741-2839.

Seconded, I simply cannot say enough good things about studying with Joe. He has a great physical approach to the instrument and the bow, developed from studying with June Rothenberg and Julius Levine and a great approach to jazz concept developed from studying and playing with Lennie Tristano and Sal Mosca.

Thanks!

Thanks a bunch guys! Now I have a couple of teachers to contact.

Quick question: assuming all the teachers I contact are available and our schedules mesh well, what is the best way to go about picking the teacher for me? I want to be respectful and professional.
