Min7 to dim7 what sounds good?

I've got a chart for Ain't Misbehavin' that includes a section
Ebm7 Edim7 | Fmin7 F#dim7 | Eb/G G+

Playing Eb Eb E E | F F F# F# Over the two bars sounds good and points up the chord changes. I like the sound of the root moving but 3 and 5 staying I place.

Eb F E F# | F G F# A sounds good too.

But that's all I've got so far. Anyone else got something?

Try : Eb Bb C E F C D F#

Chords are Eb C7(b9) Fm D7(b9)

but it will sound good even if guit/piano are playing original chords.

[nonsense on my part]

That's all well and good but also, you should consider forgetting the chords and pay attention to the melody. What the melody doing? If there's no melody over those 4 bars, what did Fats Waller play on top of that when he wrote it?

What section is that BTW?

It seems like the beginning of the tune, but it should be EbMajor7 not Ebm7.

A general help is to go to a chordal instrument like guitar or piano and play the chords out. Know all the notes in the chord and hear how the progression sounds and how alternate chords can do the same thing. Sing the melody as well, with the lyrics, to get an idea of the song itself, phrasing, pacing, tempo.

You can also play half notes too, keeping the the quarter notes for the middle.

Once you know that, chords, notes, melody, pacing, you can 'join the dots' yourself in a way that sounds fine.

Oh I don't know what I was thinking. Mea culpa.

If I played it, I'd certanly just be thinking Ebm7|Fm7|G+ while hearing the melody in my head.
Could be the first 3 bars of the bridge.
