Montag method

Good work. Comprehensive. Not too easy, best to be studied with a teacher only. Tryes to prepare for orchestral role. I think it is worth to do it together with a collection of studies.

It is the double bass method that I am using that my teacher swears by. It is by Lajos Montag published by Editio Musica Budapest. I am only on volume one but so far I have really enjoyed it. It does seem to be for preperation for orchestral role. Hope this helps.

I think, that the Montag method fits more to older students, who already heard about body awarness. I had to begin with this method and it was really hard, and had a lot of pain in my left hand. Also, Montag pays more attiention to left hand than to the right............

Can you explain 'body awareness' please - I'm intrigued. On a rival site there is this: http://www.basslessons.com/webboard/...ages/2280.html which isn't that illuminating but better than nothing?

Montag is Simandl on steroids. Much more musical.
Hungarian folk songs and compositions with piano
accompaniment. Books IV and V are thumb position.
IIIa, IIIb and IIIc are orch/solo prep. I and II
encompass Simandl I material. Not as modern
as Streicher or Rabbath in approach. I get them
from Boosey & Hawkes in the UK.
