My Favorite Things form?

Hi,

When someone calls Favorite Things on a gig, what is the form that is commonly followed?

I'm looking at a Real Book where there's a 16 bar A section played thrice (twice begining in E-, third time begining in Emaj but same melody till last 2 bars) then a 24 bar B section.

Is there a simplified form that is usually followed or is what I'm learning here what is played through solos?

I've done it one of two ways on gigs. Either stick to the form, or use it as an E-minor jam so every sax player in the house can present us with their best Coltrane impression

Best thing to do is just ask whoever is taking the head what they want to do with it.

Agreed. Either the original form as indicated in your post or the modal E stretch-a-thon ala Coltrane. I've played the original version way more often though. It's a fun tune either way.
