Actually, I made a mistake here -- I've got the Forte weight on, not the medium. Corelli 370F. I wouldn't say that the pizz sucks at all. I've heard and played better, but they don't suck IMHO. Even for the Fortes though, I can go along with "lacking balls." Just wanted to clarify that I'm not talking about the mediums.

Here's the diameter info from Bob G's website (where he recommends Corelli 370F's, his personal string):

Forte Gauge: G=.043, D=.055, A=.067, E=.089; Extra Forte Gauge: G=.044, D=.054, A=.071, E=.096

Do you think it's a typo that the Forte "D" is supposed to be one thou BIGGER than the Extra Forte "D"?

This is the part I don't understand at all. My E string is about the same tension as my G string, perhaps it has even more tension. It's certainly not thinner.
If the quoted statement is what you don't understand, it's because (IMO) it's incorrect. Take the Thomastic line for example. The sets (not including solo tuning) range from weichs (thinnest, lowest tension), to orchestra (medium guage and tension), to starks (heavy guage, most tension). It's simple: lighter guage = lower tension.

To compare the tension of sets or strings with unlike core compositions is like apples and oranges.

Since you have 370s, do you feel that your left hand technique has been compromised by thin strings? Has your left hand been "sissified"?

kwd: Nope. A lot of folks just figure I had a sissy left hand all along.

Seriously, I haven't got a vast experience with DB strings. The Corellis aren't that different from the Spirocore Weichs IMO.

This "sissifying" that we're talking about: as far as it relates to string WEIGHT and technique, how exactly does the sissifying come in? Tougher to play fast passages? I can see that. Making it harder to play at your desired level for for a given length of time? This I have trouble buying. String weight is a factor in that equation, but it's a small one. If you can handle an hour-long set on the Corellis, you can handle that set on the Spirocore Weichs.

Certified Sissified

"Sissified" was coined by another member at the beginning of this thread. My guess is that he was referring to the amount of stamina and strength you lose from playing with thin strings.

I find the Corelli 380s satisfactory for pizz with the glaring exception of the dark E. What do you think of replacing that with a Weich E? Aren't Weichs screechy under the bow?

No problem with the "sissified" thin; I read the thread.

I don't have strong feelings about the Corellis. I won't be using them again, though. I'm with the other folks: that G string is just a bit to thin and, well, sissy for my liking. Especially under the bow.

I don't find the Corelli 370 E string "dark" at all.

Strings more than anything are a very personal preference and choice. One guy hardly cares at all about them, the next guy has each string from a different manufacturer and gauge set. Go figure.
