Sorry for you , if you never meet this guy.
But don't be so silly. If you don't know him. Just don't say anything. You'll hear good things of this book in the future...and ...keep your teacher . , he may use this book too.
Peaceful. |

Amazing experience : fantastic player, incredible teacher. Ron Carter and Eddie Gomez dropped by for two days of master classes, but they couldn't compete with Heyn as far as teaching is concerned !
I also had the chance to work with some excerpts from the book.. really the best material for jazz technique and bass in music in general. Book 1 is on the way !! |

The first volume offers a complete method for jazz bass improvisation: practising, fysical aspects, comping, soloing, some harmonic theory. The second vol. offers an elaboration of the exercises in part I, in all twelve keys, with complete fingerings.
So, if you want to spare money, you can stick to the first volume, and use your imagination to work out the rest.
(Or stay with the exercises as written in pt. I, which makes you 1/12 as good as Hein, and that is rather good as well!) |

I have received the volume one of this method...
W O W ! ! !
What a book! First - it's bueutifully designed and printed - large format, clear setup, a loooooot of great exact photos - and that's just visual side.
I haven't got enough time to get more inside - over 300 pages of core informations. And the language - so simple, encouraging and endlessly to the point. I am just amazed that a book I was almost dreaming about is real.
It gives so power to go to my woodsheed and dive there for a year or more. I just need to finish my diploma exams from college and I definetelly will start a journey.
And - yeah guys - I remember that a teacher is a must - I was searching for the good one since 2 years, and have found 2 of them - classical and jazzy. Need to stick with them along work with the book.
Sorry but I am so excited that I think I write childish, but that drives me even more...

| | | | The best there is. Yes it is expensive and Hein is not the most famous bass player there is. But this is the best double bass method there is to REALLY improve your playing (and I tried them all: Sher, Carter, Brown, Reid, Simandl). I own both books (lucky enough I live in Holland and I could buy them cheap from my bass luthier).
Book I is fantastic but personally I study a lot in book 2 and especially the numbers under each note mentioning which finger to use are very helpfull to really improve your intonation and fingering. I have been using this book for 4 months now and several hick ups from the past in my playing have already disappeared. If you want flashy tips on solos from a famous bass player or transcriptions from Chambers or La Farro don't buy this book. If you want to become one with your instrument you can use this book for the rest of your life. |

I might try to find it the next time I am in Europe. |
