IMO, those who don't have that information should be studying one of the standard bass methods with a teacher. Otherwise it can cause more problems than it solves.

IMO, there are a number of ways to skin the proverbial cat, and using these videos as another practice tool in one's tool box can't really hurt. It's not a question of not having "that information", but rather another way of utilizing the information that one has. Assuming a student is working through an accepted bass study methodology with a real live teaching person, is it not OK to also watch Bill's videos on YouTube, or play along with an Aebersold book, or play Real Book charts with other musicians? The key word is "helpful".

Well put, Ray.

Bill Harrison is a bass teacher (and a good one) with many students here in chi-town. But not everyone is lucky enough to have a teacher of Bill's quality nearby.

I do agree that it's better to have a teacher. But that doesn't have to be your only resource. And after all, that Rabbath fellow seems to have done all right for himself.

I agree a teacher is best, but, there is nothing about playing an upright that is so secretive, or dangerous, that it must be passed from mouth to ear.
Keep 'em coming, Bill.

I would also say that a person who needs to know the fingers of Minor Triads should be practicing them arco.

Sounds like a request for an arco video to me.

I would also say that things should be practiced in a number of ways.
