We were gonna try this a few years back and it kinda petered out. I, for one, would be up to it maybe after the hollidays.
Mr. Fuqua would ****.

Come check out my first forays into horn trios - featuring me on Double Bass and allsorts plus Stacy Dillard on Saxophones and Bruce Cox on the drums. November 18th, 8:30 til 11 PM. Bello Sguardo is a restaurant - there is food and drinks there - we'll be playing in the basement room. Seating is limited. There is a $7 suggested donation (No, if you show up and don't pay I'm not gonna kick you out out but.......). Come hang, sit in, drink, eat....
I got a session earlier, but lets' see what consensus is, it would be nice to show some support!

Very open approach to the 3 tunes that comprised the second set (had a session earlier) MISIRLOU (with much homage to its Middle Eastern roots) an 8 bar blues with multiple time feel shifts, and last but not least PERDIDO kicked off by Lexi playing the melody.
I hadn't heard Stacy Dillard before, some serious tenor going on there. And Bruce Cox sounding great as always. Lexi sounding really confident and relaxed and in charge. Big sound, nice arco approach (more Mediterranean than legit); a lot of fun and pretty damn exciting!

The 25th I'm on tenor, although I do have David Wong on bass (along with Jeb Patton on piano and Pete VanNostrand on drums)
But on the 26th I'll be there on bass with singer/pianist Champian Fulton and drummer Fukushi Tainaka a.k.a. Fuku (Neal Miner is listed on the schedule, but he's out of town so there I am)
Come one, come all! |

I got there a little early and got to hear Alex Cuadrado playing with "Dred" Scott (some hard ****ing music too!) and Kenny Brooks, so that was nice. Alex is looking a little peaked these days (his wife just had twins) but he sounded really wonderful.
Mike (milomo) has a TREMENDOUS sound on tenor and the band was really smoking. Mike had a wonderful solo feature (and I mean acapello solo) on BODY AND SOUL. I particularly dug the arrangement on NOBODY ELSE BUT ME with that POINCIANA groove, ain't NOBODY don't get with that!
I'm ready for the next one...
