Percussion techniques

Hi!

I wonder if anyone here checked out playing percussion on the double bass body and wants to share his or her experiences. I'd also be glad to hear about players that do this and are worth listening to. And if anyone has a nice youtube link about this topic, that is welcome, too. I searched the forum and google and youtube, but it's hard to find anything because all you get is double bass pedal instruction material.

I do a bit of 'percussion' (ie banging on the bass!) on a couple of tunes that my band does, and it works really well.

The one thing i've noticed is that I like it much better through a mic- pickups don't seem to 'pick up' my 'grooves'.

I like hitting the back of the bass in the middle with my palm for a bass drum sound, and the top of the bass between the bridge and f-hole for a more snare drummy sound.

one thing to keep in mind is to make sure you're pulling the sound out of the bass, not smacking it around
follow through by snapping back - it'll clean it up
I've also done a few things tambour (striking the strings and letting them ring) but I've never really found a good use for that outside if anyone else is playing
