pizz trip technique?

One of my jury pieces is the the Paul Chambers solo on Trane's Blues. I am having a bit of trouble playing triplets with my fingers in the standard vertical position of the string, so I take my fingers almost horizontal and play the trips almost like I am playing them on an electric. Does anyone have any advice on how I can possibly make the triplets sound smoother (they don't sound so great right now)? What ways do you guys position your fingers for fast triplets?

BTW, I do have a teacher, but I wont be seeing him until thursday, and I just wanted to get this bit down before I see him...

Thanks!
