Which practise mute?

Hello all,

which practise mute would you suggest? I (or my neighbours, rather) would like it to cut as much as possible. Music shops where I live have not heard of double bass practise mutes, so it seems I would have to have it sent after (which means I can't try it out).

I guess this could go in "classical technique" as well.

Thank you.

I use the solid rubber one that Bob G sells. It does a pretty good job of cutting down on the volume.

This one works well:

I've heard stories of people actually having to build custom mutes out of plywood that literally clamp down on the bridge because of complaints from their neighbors, so I hope this mute solves your problem.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will try the rubber variant first, they were cheaper than I thought. I read somewhere about a mute in shape of a... monster of some sort, designed by Gary Karr. If I understood correctly, it was a massive brass weight that you clamped to the bridge with a wing nut. I could do without the monster, but has anyone tried a similar mute?
