right hand thumb-pizz

where do u have tour thumb? under the finger board? hooked around? just on it's side? or free in the open. mine tends to go free when im really into a walking bass line

Sounds like you answered your own question. My question would relate to your 'thumb' question; i.e., Do you extend your right arm while playing pizz?
Ray Brown used to do this and it brought his right hand closer to the bridge so as to get more attack on each note.

Where your thumb is depends on what you need. When you're thumping along and using the big, long muscles of your back and arm for strength, then a thumb on the fingerboard becomes a pivot. When you're doing faster, two-fingered stuff you probably want to have your thumb in such a way that you have maximum leverage for the smaller muscles in your hand.
