In A Sentimental Mood (w/bow)

Has anyone every played the head to that song bowed, I was messing around with pieces from a fake book and played it and I think it actually sounds pretty sweet.

Yup, yup. I really like that tune and the melody lays well in the DB.

Yeah I really enjoy it, the only problem I have is getting it to flow like it was played by trumpet, sometimes it ends up alittle seperated.

Yeah I do that one arco. Nice one to do. I've got a dozen or so tunes I like to play the melody arco. Great practice is if you have a home recording setup, record the chords on piano with a click and then record yourself playing the melody with the bow. It's really great, because when you're in tune, you know. When you're out, you painfully know it.
The pain is that while I love spirocores for pizz, they can be a pain to bow. Hence, then million or so threads about that subject here.

Other ones that I picked up were Night in Tunisia, Yardbird suite and Dont Get Around Much Anymore. Also I can do Ornithology almost up to tempo Pizz, but it starts breaking up after a while.

That is a really great melody to bow. I like the recording idea, I try not to record my arco practice though. No need to relive the nightmare.

Francois Rabbath does a mean version on his "In a sentimental Mood" CD. It's just bass and piano and he doesn't blow over it, but it's a great melody.

Ah yes... the deep dark truthful mirror that is the recording studio. I know its reflection all too well.

OK, my two cents:
1. Spirocores are great for bowing - the best IMO.
2. Any tune you really want to know you should learn the melody with the bow. Bowing all the arppegios and then just the roots all the way through doesn't hurt either.
