stretching???

Hi guys
Just started DB and had my first lesson. My teacher told me to stop whenever pain occurs and relax. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for stretching out the left arm/shoulder after practice. I am "breaking in" my shoulder and i don't want any injuries... Should i try some light weight training for my left arm and shoulder or let the bass build the muscle?

Weight training isn't bad. If you need to stretch yourself out to reach the instrument, might I suggest that you study your body position in relation to the instrument. If you're reaching or bending a lot, then you have to find a better position for yourself. If you're very small, or have a big gut (with which I have some experience, at least in the past), or your bass is huge, you may have to sit on a stool to get around the thing.
