Subdivisions: How did you master it?

My latest learning episode involves playing in 3 and going from a slow 3 ballad to playing double time in 6. I still have some trouble switching back and forth between 3 and 6. I think I have a way into getting the hang of this which involves simple drumming or tapping out certain rhythms. I can hear the dotted quarter over 3 in my head, but haven't gotten the hang of 6 on top of alla dat.

How did you big boys figure it out? How did you finally internalize it?

Little confused by your phrasing of the question.
Do you mean a 4 over 3 feel? As in double time of the dotted-quarters?

So you're starting in complex time and going to simple meter and keeping the same 8th notes? Or is it the other way around? Specify your time signatures and which changes from which.

I think he means playing a ballad in 3, and then walking 6 eighth notes per measure (and making it feel like double time)
