| Teaching through duets Over 45 years of teaching, I have always found that using duets is an excellent teaching tool. The students tend to imitate their teacher in sound, vibrato, etc. and duets give them a great opportunity to try - especially if they are written with independent lines - not just moving in block harmony. I wrote 5 bass books and the worst-selling one is the duet book. I sell about 10-12 a year! I tried to write them in one page as to be part of a lesson - not take up the whole time. The down side is - if the student plays out of tune or can't count - it will show up in the duet.
