when to make the transition

Hey, I've been playing bass for a little bit over 4 years, and have been playing almost all classical, and want to play more jazz/anything else. Not that I dont like classical, but Im just gettin a little bit sick of it, and wanna learn some jazz. Is it appropriate to just switch and bag the classical? should i stay doing primarily classical and do a little jazz? what should i do?

If you want to get into jazz and have fun with it, you will have to be serious about it, meaning "a little jazz" won't bring you far. But - by no means stop playing and practicing classical, every good jazz bass player does that. I would give it a try and practice 50/50 and practice a bit more in general instead (of course, depending on how much you practice right now).

Get a good teacher right from the start, he also might have a good clue on how to combine classical and jazz in a good way.
