This method works great, with one flaw: I have a dog who is absolutely OBSESSED with all things tennis ball. He will not leave it alone. You can see how this might end up badly for the bass (and possibly the dog). I've tried spray painting the tennis ball black, but I'm not fooling the dog. Are there any similar things on the market to the Willy Wolf Super End Pin?

I known it's not what you're looking for, but if you find it difficult to find an endpin protector here's a suggestion.
Buy a rubber cap (any hardware store will sell you one) that's smaller than the pin diameter. Find a nut (as in nuts and bolts) that's about 3mm smaller than the pin (outer diameter). Squeeze the nut into the bottom of the rubber cap and push the pin in. The nut keeps the bottom from splitting and makes the rubber sleeve nice and tight. The rubber cap is what makes a difference grip wise, so I'd try and get a good one.
I don't know whether my sollution helps at all but I wish you all the best.
