just got one. so far i like it.
im almost positive what happened with my original one was it was plugged into the hydrometer/switch gadget linked in the OP, and ran out of water, but then after it was empty, the switch turned it on while empty, thus heating and melting it into a blob and almost causing a lot worse damage.
happen with my new one, get turned on while empty, but at least this one doesn't heat up, and just basically has a fan.
if it matters, this is what i got : http://www.amazon.com/Crane-Ultrason...ane+humidifier
with the door in the room closed, the one gallon tank should last a rather long time, and quite frankly we don't use much heat here (its almost never warmer than 60 degrees in my house) so i don't forsee any problems with it running out of water, and i'll know better than to leave it unattended for days at a time now.
just wondering, what types of humidifiers do you guys normally use? steam or cool mist?
