Build thread 2007 Rockbass Corvette
I'm going to embark on a total facelift for my Rockbass. The bass in question is a 2007 Warwick Rockbass Corvette, active, 4 string, with the burst finish.
Why? I don't know, my buddy and I are both into auto body, and guitars. Refinishing a guitar or bass is just a matter of picking out what color we want. This bass is kind of ugly, but it's a very underrated, and under appreciated instrument. I feel like this bass deserves to look as good as it plays, and sounds. In other words, I need something to occupy my spare time, and spend money on, so I dreamed up this little project with the help of a friend.
The plans are-
Silver metallic paint job, with a black stripe down the center of the body. These are the school colors for our local school, where my kids attend class, play sports, and my fiance teaches. So, that was an easy decision.
I'm going to swap all the hardware over to black. I'm going to get a stock Warwick black bridge, black knobs, and I'm wanting to get a hold of some black Hipshot Ultralites, with a D-Tuner.
The headstock face is going to get painted black to match the stripe on the body. I'm going to put a German Warwick Corvette truss rod cover on it. I haven't decided what to do about the "W" logo, if I want to try and replicate it, or put a different custom logo, or just leave it all black. The Rockbass logo is going to go, I think it looks a little tacky. Plus, this bass will be a sleeper, no one will ever know at first that this is a $200 bass that I can't give away on craigslist.
The electronics are staying stock. The electronics are what make this bass so great, no need to mess with that.
I'm going to attempt DR Black Beauties at first. I've tried em before on jazz bass build, and I hated em. If I don't like em on this bass, I'm going to go back to what I've been using on this bass. DR Loriders in nickel. They are amazing on this bass.
When I'm done with it, the idea is that everything will be black except for outside out the body, which will be metallic silver. I'm not exactly sure what shade of silver yet, I'm going to look into that at work tomorrow.
Here's a picture of me, with the bass as it sits now, completely stock.
I actually like the way the sunbursts Rockbass Corvettes look like but it sounds like your idea will end up looking pretty good too. Looking forward to the results!
at first the color didn't bother me, but I have a German Warwick, and it makes my Corvette look kind of cheesy. I want a new bass, but can't afford what I REALLY want, so this will be a fun project to hold me over until I have tons of money to spend on a new bass.

I've ordered parts from Dan Africano before, I've got his number saved in my phone just in case.
I do have one question. Is my rockbass made from a solid piece of wood? If so, is it one piece, or multiple?
Dan is great, and still working his magic.
Typically they are 2-3 pieces, you should be able to see the seams in the wood.
