Corvette Std

How do you tell the difference between a Rockbass and Warwick Corvette Std.

Is Rockbass written on it, or is different?

Never had a Warwick, or Rockbass, so really don't know anything:(

For one the wood is dark on the neck of the standard(cant remember wood name) the rockbass neck is maple. Also, rockbass should be written on nut cover.

The easiest difference to see, as mentioned, is the neck wood. The Corvette Std should be ovankol or wenge (depending on year) and the Rockbass will be maple. It's also very subtle, but the trussrod cover says RB or Rockbass on it.

That said, either of them are fine instruments.

Originally the Corvette was produced in Germany, but production has been moved to Asia. It still has a Bubinga body, ovangkol neck with a wenge fret board, and is available with just passive pickups or with an active preamp. The move was made to lower costs on what is considered Warwick's intro model.

The Rockbass series uses different woods for the body, neck and fretboard. I believe the electronics are a little different, but I'm not sure of the specs. These are considered the value priced basses aimed at players with a smaller wallet. From having picked up a Pro Series Thumb, I would also guess the Rockbass series is lighter.

German Corvettes will have Corvette Std on the truss rod cover. I'm not sure what the Pro Series (Korean-made) have on the truss rod covers. Every ash-bodied German Corvette Standard I've seen on eBay had black hardware & the Pro Series ash-bodies had chrome hardware.

The bubinga vettes are heavy as well

The best way to tell is the with the serial number on the back of the headstock. For at least the last few years, the Germans will just start with a letter A-L, whereas the Korean Pro Series start with WPS, and the Chinese RockBass start with RB. The Korean Artist Series start with WAS. There are Germans with chrome hardware, as well as gold or black, and there are RockBass Corvettes that have active pickups and active electronics, so it is pretty hard to tell at a glance without the serial number.

The Pro Series say "Corvette Std" on the truss rod cover, but then in small type it says "Pro Series".

I just bought a used corvette, for 400. It had corvette std. on thr truss rod cover and on the battery electronics plastic cover said made in Germany. The neck wood was dark but with different brown colors. maybe rosewood board, serial number started with A.
Question, is this a good price, is it made in in Germany, did I get ripped off again?

bassalien 01-30-2013 04:11 PM

Sounds like a German, but perhaps list the entire serial number and/or a photo if possible. I don't like to go by the covers since they could be swapped out easily by an unscrupulous person.

That's a good price if it's indeed German-made. Good price if it's Korean-made too.

400 for a vette is an awesome price! From the sounds of it, it's probably German made, so good on ya!

Buslady7803 01-31-2013 11:46 PM

Theres a serial number search on the W website under support, check it thru there. 400$ is great and sounds to me to be a German vette

Hobobob74, did you buy it?

Hobobob74 02-05-2013 10:24 AM

I decided against it. It was a very nice bass, no doubt.

It just wasn't for me, jazz pups just don't do it for me:( lol

Thanks for all the help though guys!
