Framus/Warwick players face to face - 4 - Jonas Hellborg and Blackbyrd McKnight

Most of the myriad of artist interviews available today consist of musicians responding to questions posed by journalists. Our new feature „Warwick / Framus Players Face To Face“ provides a much-needed breath of fresh air. All of our video interviews in the series feature musicians interviewing musicians! After all, what could be an interview format that is better suited for discussing exciting musical topics?

In the current episode, Warwick Signature Endorser and bass legend Jonas Hellborg meets Framus endorser and Funk juggernaut DeWayne “Blackbyrd” McKnight. Jonas is a Swedish-born bass virtuoso with a playing style that is second to none, who rose to international fame as a member of John McLaughlin’s legendary group "Mahavishnu Orchestra". Blackbyrd joined the famous P-Funk collective back in 1978, and has since become one of the essential guitarists in funk music who held the position of the musical director for George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic for 28 years. However, Blackbyrd is also at home in the world of jazz, as proven by his collaboration with Charles Lloyd, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters and many others.

The interview led by Jonas kicks off with the all-important question: How can you describe P-Funk? What is P-Funk? Blackbyrd's reply: "In short - everything!" The result is a discussion about both the hallmarks and finer points of the legendary style whose popularity shows no signs of diminishing, which could not be any more profound. But that is not all: the interview also provides insight into Blackbyrd's jazz roots!

During the course of the coming five months, a new, exclusive interview will be released each week. All videos can be found in the section "Framus/Warwick Players Face To Face", so be sure to visit warwick.de on a regular basis!
