looose truss rod ???

Brought a Warwick Rockbass corvette active in January, action and setup are ok but theres this rattling sound , almost a vibration when playing.Could this be a problem with the truss rod? If the trussrod is rattling, howcan i stop it?

this could be from one or more places could be from bridge screws pickups screws loose tuners. yes a truss rod can rattle inside the neck I have had an issue with a NT thumb bass and I can tell you how I got it to stop but first things first get allen wrenches out and screw drivers and go over everything I mean every little screw, nut, etc....than tell me if it's still doing it.

Also check the machine heads to make sure they're not loose in some way. I have a loose head on my Washburn, it rattles all the time. I need to replace them.

Sayerboy - As Means2nEnd said...go over everything first to be sure there is nothing obviously loose. Let us know what you find and we can troubleshoot if needed. Thanks!

Yeah, thanks checked all them, even taken up the trussrod half a turn , its still rattling. I even took off the strings,if I hold the neck close to my ear and tap, then its obviously the trussrod.

OK I have a NT Thumb that had a working but rattling truss rod. I did everything and checked everything and eliminated everything else. I also had a Spector before do the same thing. Only on certain notes I guess when the note matched the frequency response of the bass itself or something like that. Anyway there is a cure even for non-removable truss rods and you don’t need to take off the fingerboard.

So here is what worked for me. Take truss rod cover off and place bass upright in a stand. Get a can of WD40 with the little red plastic long tube and get it so it goes to the side of the nut of the end of the truss rod and squirt 2-3 short bursts of the stuff down the hole. Let it stand for an hour or so and repeat. I had to do this a couple times. It’s not harmful to the truss rod or the bass and won’t make it sound dead or loose volume or anything like that. For me I did it a couple times and after about two weeks it came back not as bad but it came back and I just repeated the process and it’s been like 6-8 months and its fine no more rattle.

I always shoot a squirt or two down every bass I get that’s used so if I have to make an adjustment to the truss rod it will turn freely anyway. So grease your rod dude it works!

Thanks for the info Means2nEnd! Let's hope we can get this one sorted with some good old-fashioned rod grease!
