Strap locks for a Thumb, What do you use? Recently acquired a Bleach Blond Thumb LTD from 03', i tried swapping in Schaller strap locks and the screw was too small, the screw used for the pegs on the thumb will not wit in the Schaller strap button. What strap locks are compatible with this Thumb Bass? |
Dunlop. Way better than Schaller and cheaper. I've used one set for 25 years. And if you forget your strap, well, don't if you use Schaller. About the screw thing, It's very likely that you may have to open the hole up a bit with any button. |
Thats my prob, the hole is bigger than schaler, ive got plenty of those lying around... So dunlop i would have to open it up more huh? Ill have to make a run to guitar center. |
Warwick's strap locks were already included on my Thumb when I bought it. Yours doesn't have them? |
Mine was used and did not come with anything. I went to GC and purchased Dunlop strap locks, when i got home to test it it turns out the pegs were indeed from Dunlop, one of the screws was stripped so i swapped everything out for the new hardware. |
Recessed Dunlop/Warwick straplocks FTW. Such a clean look, and rock solid. All their basses had them from in the 90s, and they are killer. If you forget your strap, you probably forgot a bunch of other stuff too, so just turn around and go back home. ;) Jacob |
My early model Thumb uses threaded anchors paired with strap button screws (which are Allen head bolts really). Sadly, these bolts are rather large and will not work with Dunlops or Schallers. So I attach my strap and then wrap a small black rubber back around the strap button and the end of the strap. It keeps the strap from working off of the button and it nearly invisible. One day I will machine out a set of Schaller strap lock buttons for the larger Allen bolts. |
I use Warwicks. I had to fill in the holes with toothpick slivers and wood glue cuss they were wider than the screws that came with the straplocks. Works great. |
I hated the warwick strap locks they were garbage after 4 months, completely stripped in every single place possible. (I even oiled the ball joints) nothing better than getting hit in the face with the neck of your bass.... Dunlop ones have been my fav. But I liked the look of the black warwick ones on my thumb 5. |
LOXX hands down the best I have ever used. |

My 'wicks have either Schaller or the Warwick Dunlop style straplocks, and they all work fine. I had some of the original 90s Warwick Dunlop straplocks fail on my Corvette, but once I put Schallers on it (had to plug the hole from the recessed lock and install new), it was fine. |
Strap-locks on a Warwick Warwick strap-locks are standard on all basses and (as others have mentioned) using other brand strap-locks will require modification to your bass. Our strap-locks can be easily ordered through the NY Custom Shop. Please give us a call at (212) 777-6990 to place an order. |
