Bass and vocal duos

Any standards you'd recommend that are cool to do as bass/vocal duos?

Something like this
Kurt Elling - The Waking (special version with T.Roethke's text) - YouTube

Two that I've heard:

"Crazy"
Lari White and (I think) David Hungate

"On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe"
Nancy LaMott and Jay Leonhart

Thanks,
Pete

Audra McDonald sings "Eat my Frog" by Jay Leonheart. Pretty sweet.

just about any standard could work in this configuration. Ive done gigs with just myself and a vocalist. You just have to adjust your playing a bit (adding double stops, walking more often, etc.). Also, if you plan on soloing, you rly have to adjust so that youre more or less comping for yourself. So i tend try to establish the groove, and throw in some roots on the downbeats, and play fills throughout. It also doesnt hurt if your playing with a vocalist who listens well, and is sensitive to make sure youre not over exposed for too long. IME, fast swing tunes work really well.

Heres a great example. Larry does a great job of mixing up his rhythms and using the triplet to give the song some forward momentum. He also does a great job of comping for himself while he solos. Rebecca Martin & Larry Grenadier - YouTube

"Key Largo" as done by Sarah Vaughn has a little guitar, but is mostly just bass and vocal. It's one of my favorites.

Michel Donato, a great bass player in Montreal, has a few duo cds with a vocalist, Karen Young. They do a mix bag of stuff but for standards they do killer versions of "Fever" and "I loves you Porgy".
