Bottesini 2 string or full orchestra?

Hi all,

I'm lucky to get the oportunity to perform Bottesini's 2nd concerto with orchestra this year. I'm looking for the orchestra score but I found out there are editions for string or full orchestra. Does anyone know what is the original? And what would you choose?

thnx for replying!

I'm sure Bottesini himself played with both. It sounds amazing both ways, but I'd say go for the strings. It is simpler and sounds good. (and cheaper)

All the performances with full orchestra didn't sound that great. The orchestration was strange, and it sounds really good with string orchestra, plus there's that much less for you to project over.

I don't know if it will work for the Bottesini, but I think this guy has the right idea:

Or not.

It is a good idea. If I ever write a concerto I will use a ton of woodwinds and pizz from the strings.

Which is why I like the orchestration of the Koussevitzky (and Bottesini No. 1) in some of the more powerful sections for the soloist.
