concerto competition

im aware that similar threads have more than likely been posted, but i think id rather make my own than look through previous ones :P.

anyways, my youth orchestra is having a concerto competition allowing only 1 movement from a concerto (im not sure if any one movement work is allowed), and id like to try out.

now this is a competition including all instruments in a standard symphony so as a bassist, trying out may be kind of futile, but im not hoping to win, just to stand out. anyways, if any other bassists are trying out, i KNOW theyre gonna be doing mov. I of the Koussevitzky, so excluding that (and Dragonetti/Nanny), what are some specific movements from bass concertos that would help me stand out? i know you know nothing about my skills or abilities, but just as an objective bass player, give your best thoughts. thanks

play in tune and rhythmically. That usually stands out amongst bass players.

hey, try the bottesini 1st concerto the one that nanny arranged. it has everything in it, fast technical passages, slow lyrical passages, and a cool cadenza with some double stops. im in a youth orchestra also and thats what im trying out for our concerto competition with. good luck!!

does it have to be a bass concerto? I remember way back when i auditioned for the va symphony youth orchestra, I used some bach cello concertos. lots of fun to play.

for example-
suite 3 mv 2
