E L 1940 notation in String Builder books

Hello bassists out there,

I was just perusing some of my String Builder DB books, especially the "2nd and 4th Position" and "3rd and 5th Position". Something caught my eye in these books...there was a notation below some of the songs:

"E.L. 1946" and "E.L. 1940"

I'm guessing these might refer to the person who transcribed certain pieces...by Bach, Sevcik, Sitt, etc.

Anybody notice these before...and have an idea who this person might be?

Thanks,
Gina

Maybe Eugene Levinson?

The initials are either those of the publisher or the person who made the engraving.
The number is either the edition or the actual plate number. (engravings were made on metal plates, usually copper or zinc). In some cases it's a date, but not usually.
