Question Examples of Upright in Pop Music

I would appreciate if anyone could recommend some examples of recorded music in which the upright bass (or electric upright) is used in modern pop or rock music. Nora Jones may be a good example. I play upright or electric upright in church and I'd like to hear how some modern upright players perform their bass lines. Many thanks.

Brian

Beth Orton's first record had a lot of upright. That Silly band from Canada, Barenaked Ladies, has lots of upright. Cake as well.

But what kinda pop do you mean? Kiddie pop, or stuff like I mention above?

Others are G-Love and Special Sauce, Soul Coffin and Jump Little Children. I've played upright on several popish records. Nothing to write home about, but more examples of it used in rock. The major label ones I've done should be easy to find and they are:
David Garza "This Euphoria"
Juliana Hatfield "Beautiful Creature"

I know there are lots of other examples but its late and im too tired to remember.

A classic: The Cure - Love Cats (can't verify it - at least it sounds like they used an upright)

Rickie Lee Jones had Charlie Haden on one of her albums. I think the title was "Pop". I remember that it had a yellow cover.

Tony Levin plays a bit of EUB on the stuff he plays with Peter Gabriel. Soul Coughing was all URB (with effects at times even).

Patrick O'Hearn did some phenomenal DB work with Frank Zappa, particularly on "Sleep Dirt".

I figured he was just using DB for the video. It doesn't sound like a DB to me.

Interesting that you said modern, but the vast majority of the examples given are from 80s bands - that was 20 years ago - does it still count as "modern"?

If you're talking strictly modern "pop" - then it's almost exclusively programmed...

But there is a sense in which Jazz is becoming the new pop!!

So at a lot of the pop/rock festivals this year, there have been Jazz or at least "Jazzier artists....

How about Jamie Cullum - Jazz/Swing/Pop crossover ? - with the wonderful Geoff Gascoyne on Double Bass - definitely a good player, who is out there now, doing it on DB - not 20 years ago!
