Fake Book with 3650 tunes ??
A friend was cleaning up before making a major move, and offered me her deceased Husband's fake book. I need less fake books, not more these days, but decided to take a look.
3650 songs in 3 binders! Absolutely beautiful penmanship.
I'm thinking it might have been a book used by Union guys decades ago.
Anybody seen something like this? It really is a tome, and I thanked her profusely.
Are these Jazz Charts or 2-3 page wedding charts? There was a keyboard/pianist at the Musician's Institute who's penmanship was impeccable. It was said that for decades people had played his charts all over town and that he did new ones all the time. I Have probably 70-100 of them and they look better than anything you would see come out of a Hal Leonard published text.
I want to say his name was Roger, but I cannot remember his last name.
It might be a collection of "Tune Dex" cards, which came from a subscription service. Do the charts look like this. (scroll down to the part that says Tune Dex). ?
When I first looked at it, I was stunned by the penmanship of some random pages, and the sheer size.
Now on taking a closer look, it's actually a collection, and clearly from several different hands.
The index says:
"This collection has been made possible with the help of several dozen musical pen pals, who believe as I do, that these songs should be made available to the younger musicians. Most of the material is no longer published and some never were. As of now, November 1990, there are 2150 pages (approx 3650 songs). In perhaps 6 months another 300 pages will be added. A want list is being developed, and any help to round up these goodies would be appreciated"..
Quite a project, in any case...Lyle
That's an ungodly number of tunes. I probably have ten fakebooks on my tablet and the total number doesn't even hit 3,200 tunes...and that's with multiple duplicates (e.g. five version of All the Things You Are, etc)
So, do you want the book, or.....Do you have a scanner and Hulu?
I would like a copy of that book.
There are older fake books that are just collections of the Tune Dex cards, copied into book form. I thought that might be what Ryan has.
If you do scan that book, I'd like a copy of the index pages so that I can create an index for iGigBook.
Oh, Man, I shoulda kept my mouth shut. :)
People can PM me, and I'll think about doing something with this, but the idea of scanning 2000+ pages is daunting.
Thanks to all....Lyle
