Favorite Works

It's very hard to say this is my favorite piece, though it would be nice if people could name some of their favorite pieces of music to listen to or perform.

For me lately it has to be:

Berg: Wozzeck and Violin Concerto
Mahler: Symphony No. 7 and 9
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 and 10

There's a lot of great ones. For now, let's put Beethoven's 9th and Borodin's second string quartet up on the board.

My favorite piece, at this exact moment, is Mahler's Fifth Symphony. I now own all 9 of his completed symphonies, and am quickly falling deeply in love with his Second, Third and Sixth Symphonies.

Symphonic: Mahler's 5th
Soloistic: Dvorak's Cello Concerto
Chamber: Schubert's 14th String Quartet, "Death and the Maiden"

Too many to mention really, but over the years - the most intense and moving performances I have attended, have been of :

Mahler's 6th Symphony

Messaiaen's Turangalila Symphonie

Walton's 1st Symphony

Bruckner's 8th Symphony
