| Know this concerto? I'm always looking for new and better music so I thought I'd share once in a while.
I have in my possession a copy of Robin Holloway's Concerto for DB and orchestra. I think this is a piece worthy of serious consideration and it's available for purchase so anyone can tackle it. Written in 1983 for Duncan McTier. Lots of playing in the lower register, so the accompaniment is very sparse, and that's intentional per his notes. There just nothing in this piece that is "stupid difficult". No extended passages in harmonics, no circus music, AND normal tuning. A serious piece by a serious composer. My goal is to learn it this summer and hack through a video so you fine folks can hear some of it.
Cheapest is ordering directly through Boosey and Hawkes' website. Sheetmusicplus.com has it also.
Anybody familiar with this concerto?
AND, Holloway also composed a solo sonata based on the concerto which is more difficult, partly because it's non-stop, and also because he filled in the piano/orchestra part with more material.
