The Last Song Of The Evening

You know, the punctuation mark song that caps it off at the end of the night. Last night, it was Jimmy Rowles' beautiful tune, "The Peacocks". Another one that I like to call is "I'll Be Seeing You" (swiped that from Fred Hersch, whose use of it is made all the more poignant by his continuing battles with his health).

What do guys like to use as a final statement?

We like something a little uptempo with a little bit wistfulness to it. "Bye Bye Blackbird" is a chestnut but we do it anyways. Often we'll do "I Love Paris".

a quartet i used to play with ALWAYS played an up-version of trane's liberia as the last tune. i tend to like to calm it down with the last tune if there is a rare occasion that i get to call it...been playing mccoy tyner's search for peace recently. the peacocks is a great tune...need to get on learning that. around here up tempo secret love or i love you always seem to be big to end with as well, with a chorus of the theme thrown in at the end.
