Luigi Negri (1837-1891) Bottesini classmate

Hey All!
Just want to let you know that ISG Music has just published five newly discovered pieces by Luigi Negri who was a student of the same teacher as Bottesini's, Rossi. In fact Negri took over the Conservatory gig after Rossi. Negri stayed in Milan while Bottesini traveled. Negri's arrangements of popular opera of the day are similar to Bottesini's writing but in many ways more interesting... still just as virtuosic. I edited all five pieces with a Milanese bassist, Remo Ricci. They are great additions to your concert repertory! You can peruse them at www.isgmusic.com. Best to you all.

He never was at Milan at the same time as Bottesini was he? He is 8 years younger. And, didn't Bottesini start at Milan when he was like 12??

But either way I'd love to see or hear some of his music.

Negri

You are right, not "class-mates" I meant, sorry, that he studied with the same teacher as Bottesini. Clearly Bottesini had a big influence on Negri, and maybe he was a copy-cat! This may also be why the music by Negri is unknown... but it is known now and is interesting and fun!
Best!
