Mendelssohn's "Song Without Words for Cello

I am going to study this piece on the double-bass and I want any advice by anyone in here that have played this piece before, could give me (fingering, interpretation, tempos, etc.) and also if anyone knows about a good recording (doesn't has to be a double bass recording!).

Thanks

The transcription I have lays nice on the bass and has some interesting problems to solve when it goes up an octave.
There is a recording of it by Silvio Dalla Torre on "Songs - Chansons - Elegies". He plays Bassetto, a bass tuned in fiths froma low G.
should be easy to find, it is not very old.
