Need a good Classical Peice

For my college auditions I plan to pursue Jazz Studies. For my bass audition I have to play a classical peice, work or etude.

On my audition I plan to play electric bass but was wondering what would be a good classical peice or something else that would seem fit to play. Keep in mind those are not the genres I know a whole lot about thats why I am asking this questions.

Thanks alot !

Go to ASODB and download "Reflections" (by me) with piano, if needed. It's free, about 1 1/2 minutes, will work on electric as well as upright and the committee will have never heard it and be impressed AND its free!!

The Bach Solo Cello Suites are the stand-by. #1 in G falls nicely under the fingers but apparently it's been done to death. I worked up one of the other ones (I think it was #3 in Eb?) and though I gaffed it a few times on the audition, they actually thanked me for not doing #1.

Yeah... on the waiting list! Let's just say that tricky passage in bar 37 was just one of many different things I screwed up for the audition.

I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah, those Cello Suites are great. I play them on electric, but I will try upright soon.

Chances are if you have to play a classical peice to get in. You will need to keep playing classical during your school learning. If you don't like classical don't do it. You'll either be really turned on and then you'll probably end up having to learn upright (which you may not want to do) or you'll be absolutely turned off.

What school are you planning to audition for? I just think if the school was meant for jazz studies then you would need to audition jazz. If you have to audition classical most likely you'll be turned down just because they'll expect you to play classical in which you don't usually play electric bass for an orchestra or whatever. It really wouldn't hurt to play upright especially for jazz. You'll definitely get alot more work. I play both now and I'm getting tonnes of work and I'm absolutely thrilled that I do play both now. I think just by sound, some songs just sound better with upright and alot of old fashioned jazz finatics or I guess anyone I talk to/play with always talk that the electric just can't sound like the upright.

I say if you want to seriously take up jazz on electric bass, look up schools that offer that and school's that are focused to what you are looking for.

Thanks for stating the obvious. And no, some schools require classical peices for technique. Their are tons of schools now that offer the mix up of Upright and Electric. And im going for jazz, not classical.

IME it wasn't the end of the world to work up a few pieces. If I could "deal" anyone can.
