piano score to bass

Lately, I have had music directors hand me piano scores as bass parts. Sometimes its nice to have a line to that really complements the harmony. Sometimes it's just unplayable for me. Does this happen to you?

piano score to bass

It happens from time to time. A couple of things you can do; make your own part, adjust the octave where needed- get rid of all the ledger lines etc. The other thing is politely ask the piano player if he or she might like to lay off the left hand so that you aren't doubling the line. Sometimes it will be cool to double the piano left hand, but that should be for special emphasis- not the norm.
Hope this helps
