Preferred Vanhal Edition?

Which edition of the Vanhal is everyone playing these days? My teacher mentioned that he has the Doblinger edition in C Major, but neither of us could find it in print.

I've heard Duncan McTier has an edition out for orchestral tuning, which seems interesting. I'll likely be playing this piece in orchestral tuning for conservatory auditions and in solo tuning for a recital.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

C Major (D Major solo tuning), Hofmeister or Doblinger. It will say D Major of course. It is much easier than the E Major version and allows you to more easily simulate the Viennese tuning the piece was originally written in.

i am using the Hofmeister version in C major (it says D major) edited by Kulaus Trumpf. Its pretty good but my teacher has changed some of the funky editing that that is in it, For instance it says to play it an octave up when it shouldent be and so on. I havent been able to find another version of it. good luck!

There's really no set standard for 8va sections in the Vanhal. If it was a required piece for a concerto competition, you would hear about fifteen renditions of it in three different tunings.

the only version in C with orchestral tuning piano part that I know of is the Duncan McTier edition. Most C versions have a D piano part for solo tuning. It's very clean too.

I'm using the Hofmeister edition in C major at the moment.

I was wondering though if anyone has the Gruber cadenzas for the Vanhal? They sound great on the Streicher recording, and I'd prefer to play those over the printed cadenzas in this edition.
