Quality "Beginner-Intermediate" Solo Pieces

I'm in a pickle. I gave up playing the double bass for a while because my arthritis was causing me problems. It turns out that not playing made my hand worse (everything starts to atrophy around a bad joint). So, I've started playing again, conservatively. I'm wondering if any of you could recommend some good solo pieces I could work on that are simply pleasant and fun to play. Nothing too simple (like Suzuki 1 or 2). I was thinking of Vance's materials, although the fingerings are sometimes odd. Thanks for your suggestions.

Marcello sonatas are a good choice. Also play some easy cello pieces such as the Swan and Arioso. There is also The Elephant from Carnival of the Animals.

The Vance books are a good choice. It is a great way of teaching because the book uses tunes everybody knows. You don't have to use Vance's fingerings if you don't want to.
