Question on this extract...
1. Does the clef change to alto, so the first note after the quarter rest is D#?
2. This is a combined cello/DB score - in the last 2 bars, do you play the top or the bottom line?
Incidentally, it is from Handel's Messiah...What a good workout it is!

Generally accepted modern practice is that the double bass does not play the passages in tenor or other clefs. In this case that would have the DB playing a high B in that passage. There's even some higher notes in treble clef coming up in a few measures in that edition. What was done in Handel's day is debatable, although those passages are easier on the violone. If you want to play the passage, I'd play the bottom notes in the last two measures.
