Recital Program

I couldn't find any recital program threads here, and I sure would like to know what pieces are being performed these days. After almost 40 years, I'm planning a recital to celebrate the restoration of my Czech bass (getting a new neck) and here goes-

Adagio for Bass-Lauren Bernofsky
Bach- First Suite (I play a corrected Sterling ed)
Vaughan Williams- Six Studies in English Folksong
(intermission)
Ballade For Unaccompanied Contrabass-Ranjbaran
Concerto-Koussevitsky (orch tuning)

That'll about do it for this old-timer.

That Ranjbaran piece is amazing. I'm glad bass players are playing it.

The Ranjbaran piece was commissioned by the ISB for the 1999 Solo Competition. You are all alone (no accompaniment), so you are free to do what you like. It is very chromatic; lots of 16th notes in 6/8 time; mostly around thumb position; no tricky rhythms; extremely expressive; three pages long. You will not be sorry if you order this. I paid $5 at New England Conservatory for my copy; you can get it from Theodore Presser (www.presser.com)

speaking of Ranjbaran and recitals...

As part of my senior recital for Juilliard Pre-College, Armand Ranjbaran (Bezhad's son) has written me a short sonata. I haven't heard the piano part yet, but the bass part is so good! Very challenging, but this kid really knows how to compose. I think the fact that he was able to write playable 4-voice chords on the bass speaks for his compositional knowledge.

The recital is in April, so sometime around then I will post recordings of the piece, and possibly the rest of my program (which includes a Vivaldi sonata, a Sperger sonata, Chanson Triste and Valse Miniature by Koussevitzky, and maybe some more).

Has anyone played the Anderson Cappriccio in recital? I've got a year or so to put a recital together and I'd like to include it if it's realistic.
