Shirley liked it slow!

Now that I have your attention.... I'm checking out Shirley Horn's version of "But Beautiful" on my Sirius radio. She takes it at a slow tempo, then cranks it back some more, dips it in molasses, until it arrives at maybe the slowest tempo I've ever heard. Somehow, it still swings like crazy.

If there was a cooler musician on the planet, I'd like to know who it might be.

heh. you need special camera equipment to get a clear shot....

as far as cool -- I think Dexter Gordon might be a close second, especially when you hear him speak. I had a recording... hmm lemme look for it so i get it right... Nights at the Keystone:

"Thank you much, llllladies annnnd gentleman wwwweeee'd like to uuuuuhhh.... continue with an original. this one is called The Panther, The Panthuuuuhh

man it's as cool as can be.

And then Rufus comes in with that bass line. phew.

Yeah. I love to try to imitate Dexter's walk after watching "Round Midnight".
