Valentines jazz tunes?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions for tunes to play at a Valentines show other than the usual suspects. Appreciate any input.

Thx.

Sorry, it's always much more fun to think of what NOT to play on these occasions:

Just one of those things
Just friends
When your lover has gone
You've changed
Makin' whoopee (at least the second chorus)

etc.

I know, that's not helpful.

Anyway, as for actual suggestions--

How deep is the ocean
Let's fall in love
The nearness of you
I get a kick out of you
Just you, just me
I've got the world on a string

And many, many more. Nearly all standards are about love. You just want to avoid the ones that are about love gone wrong.

No matter how well you think this through you're still going to have to play My Funny Valentine.

Could it be more obvious? "I Love You"

Or, one I like a lot is "I Love You For Sentimental Reasons". Play the melody arco and watch the chicks melt.

Maybe "Haunted Heart"?

There's a bunch. Good thread topic.

In a sentimental mood. Another tear jerker or knee wobbler.

+1 for that - I love playing that tune arco, and it's the first tune I'm trying to teach myself on the clarinet.

Also a +1 for The Nearness of You.

Do you have a vocalist?

Wouldn't it be ironic if you played Romance Without Finance on Valentines day?

I don't know if you want to try this, written by Lou Carter (piano), Herb Ellis (guitar), and John Frigo (violin):

I told you "I love you," now get out.
I told you "I love you," now get out.
Ev'rything's rosy, ev'rything's Jake, but
just how much can a good man take,
I told you "I love you," now get out.

There may be times when I need you, there's no doubt,
But now, you're something I can do without.
Leave your number, and go on home,
but don't wait with sandwiches by the phone,
I told you "I love you," now get out.

Baby, please leave me be.
You want a puppet and there's no strings on me.

Get hip, you can leave on the five-eighteen,
Now don't go 'way sayin' I've been mean.
If I should weaken, and change my ways,
your round-trip ticket's good for sixty days,
I told you "I love you," now get out.
