Larry Graham HAS to be on the list. NO ONE can slap with as much BALLZ as Larry Graham.

Stanley Clarke-
...check out "Lopsy Lu" for some early, early Open-Hammer Plucks.
His URB slappin' is totally off the charts, too. There's some youtube clips that will leave your jaw hangin'.

Louis Johnson-
...along with Graham, an early pioneer.

Chuck Rainey-
...tasteful, artful slap/pop ("Peg").

Wooten-
...no-brainer.

Keith Horne-
...very similiar to Wooten, but upsidedown/in-reverse.

He's not very well-known, but Norm Stockton is one of my favorite slappers. He plays with Lincoln Brewster, but he's also released a solo album of contemporary jazz-type stuff that absolutely kills.

I got way too many to mention! If you delve into old school funk and R&B, you'll find literally hundreds of cats who could slap with the best of them! I love them all!

Is it the tuned percussion guy who's doubling the bassline at the beginning (with some kind of MIDI deal)? Looks like it to me - that's cool.

I think that is a marimba, and I'm not sure if that's where that synth sound is originating from...

I'll bet it is - check out how he's clearly mimicking the bass pattern. It's definitely not the keyboard player.
