Which 2 Albums Say It All...?

Sign in to disble this ad
Someone asks you to recommend 2 albums to listen to, so they can get what all the fuss is about when you bang on about bass.

I'd probably go for Primus 'Frizzle Fry' and Coroner 'R.I.P.' although by the time I press send I will have changed my mind.

Pick two of these and call me in the morning:

"And Out Come the Wolves"

"Black Sabbath"

"Number of the Beast"

All you need to do is have THEM pick ANY song, turn it on,and CRANK the treble...They'll get it!

This is the most objective answer to an otherwise subjective question. Sigged.

Charles Mingus: Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (mostly because of "II B.S.")
The Who: Live at Leeds Box Set (I'm still in awe of the Ox, particularly during the "Tommy" portion of the show...)

Beatles' Abbey Road was a close 3rd - McCartney's playing on most of those tracks is exemplary!

Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall - T. Monk, Coltrane, Ahmed Abdul-Malik
Blister In The Sun - Violent Femmes

In the first album, the bassist's comping is completely responsible for filling in the low end, sounds really empty without that thumpy double bass.

And the Femmes... Well, Blister In The Sun isn't much without Brian Ritchie.
