I never noticed it until a friend pointed it out. I have no stripe. Are they a thing of the past?

Mine has no stripe and it's from '97.

Fenders with graphite neck reinforcement (as on the US standards, and deluxes, and others) have no skunk stripe-

they have to rout from the front for the graphite rods to go in. so they rout the trussrod channel from the front too.

(hence separate fingerboards on the maple neck versions)
